A blend of 66% Cabernet Sauvignon, 33% Merlot, and 1% Petit Verdot, the 2006 Calon Segur is an elegant, classic effort that represents about 60% of their total production. Deep ruby, with forest floor, cassis, black cherry, and soil undertones in both the aromas and flavors, this is a medium to full-bodied wine. A success for the vintage, it exhibits fine density, moderately high but sweet tannins, and alluring texture, and fine purity............by Robert parker.

Chateau Lafleur-Beausejour 2005

Deep plum-ruby in color.

The nose is immediately inviting with sweet, soft, creamed fruit on the nose, warm berries and plum/cherry compote echoed on palate.

This is very gentle, accessible wine with understated nuances of pepper on the mid-palate and finish - a crowd pleaser.

Chateau B de Belair 2001

This is in fact a third wine produced by the former owner of Chateau Belair, St. Emilion (Premier GCC B).

This bears testimony to its renowned provenance, at a very accessible level.

Rich plum-cherry in colour, this presents a sweetly fruited red and black berried nose, with hints of white pepper. There is a good weight of youthful fruit, with a well-integrated structure. Silk-textured, smooth and rather classical, this is a very welcoming claret-lovers claret.

This great St.-Estephe estate has turned out a succession of brilliant wines. The 2005, a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot, has put on weight over the last year. An opaque ruby/purple hue is accompanied by a sweet nose of earth, smoke, cassis, and cherries as well as a textured, full-bodied mouthfeel. While the tannin is high, there is beautifully sweet fruit underlying the wine’s structure. It will require 8-10 years of cellaring after release, and should drink well for three decades............by Robert parker.

Calon Segur 2005  RP92+

A compelling effort from Madame Denise Gasqueton, the 2003 Calon-Segur displays a stunning similarity to the 1982 when tasted in March, 1983. The flavors lean more toward the black fruit spectrum as the ripeness and generosity of the estate’s Cabernet Sauvignon was extraordinary in 2003. In 1982 it was the Merlot that proved to be the superior varietal. The blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot has resulted in one of the deepest-colored efforts yet produced by this estate. The black/purple color is accompanied by an opulence and unctuosity that is characteristic of the most successful 2003 northern Medocs. Low acidity, no hints of over-ripeness, and fabulously pure black currant, blackberry, licorice, and underbrush characteristics cascade over the palate with no hard edges. A high tannin level is well-concealed, and the finish lasts for over a minute. Given Calon-Segur’s traditional winemaking and upbringing, this 2003 will no doubt close down (as the 1982 did)...........by Robert parker.

Calon Segur 2003  RP94

A dense, traditionally crafted wine for those with patience, the 2000 Calon-Segur rivals the estate's finest wines of the last two decades, the 1995, 1988, and 1982. But be forewarned, this wine has already closed down, something totally in character with all top vintages from this estate. This blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, and 10% Cabernet Franc exhibits a plum/purple color along with gorgeous aromas of creosote intermixed with spring flowers, black cherries, cassis, licorice, and stony, liquid minerals. A powerful, tannic, full-bodied and opulent wine, it possesses considerable structure that is reasonably well-concealed by considerable glycerin and intensity...............By Robert Parker.

Calon Segur 2000  RP94

The wine is opaque ruby/purple-colored, full-bodied, ferociously tannic, and crammed with fruit and extract. Made in an uncompromising, traditional style, this wine will require a decade of patience. There is plenty of sweet fruit on the attack, and while the tannins are high, they are remarkably ripe with no evidence of astringency or vegetal characteristics. This appears to be a profound, classic, muscular, and powerful Calon-Segur that will age effortlessly for 30-40 years. Readers should remember that this estate possesses one of the greatest terroirs of Bordeaux, and produced a bevy of legendary wines in the twenties, late forties, and early fifties............by robert parker.
